Creating an outdoor community node in the middle of Little Jamaica.

Reggae Lane is a commercial laneway located in Little Jamaica, near Eglinton and Dufferin. The laneway runs just south of Eglinton in the east-west direction from Oakwood Ave to a Green P parking lot, and has a number of independent, unique businesses on the north side and residences to the south. It has already seen some progress for improvement - it was officially named Reggae Lane in August by City Council, a name that reflects the rich music history along Eglinton Ave W, and has recently had a 1200 sq.ft mural completed at its eastern end by artist Adrian Hayles with the STEPS Initiative.

Over the course of 2015, The Laneway Project worked with local community members - the York-Eglinton BIA, civic organizations, businesses and residents – to assess the laneway today and develop a vision for its future. This consultation process produced a set of key actions to improve the laneway, ranging from paving and lighting improvements to garbage management and the creation of a formal Friends of Reggae Lane group to steward the laneway on an ongoing basis. These key actions in turn formed the Reggae Lane Master Plan and Implementation Plan, which was adopted by the community working group in January 2016 and will guide the ongoing improvement of the laneway.
